Hello,
Age: 28
Weight: 13.5st
Height: 6ft 2in
Body Type: Athletic / Slim
Diet: Varied / Healthy
Medication: None
Disabilities or Illnesses: None
Im currently on my third week into a sleep diary which is tracking my daily habits and sleep patterns- although Im hoping someone may have had similar experiences or at least has some knowledge on sleep disorders.
Ill first start by saying Ive had this issue for as long as I can remember. My family always classified it as sleep terrors where Id wake up during the night frightened, and would often jump out of bed screaming and distressed. This persisted right through my teens (maybe Hormones I thought) and early twenties (maybe studying /stress I thought), hoping Id grow out of it. But Im late twenties now and still have these problematic nights.
The patterns I have noticed are waking up usually a few hours after getting into bed (most commonly around 1am it seems). I can be shouting loud and sometimes I jump out of beds and throw covers or pillows around me. I wake up almost instantly and can remember the incident the next day. The latest trend seems to be worrying, shaking my girlfriend and pushing her in my sleep, as you can imagine this is scary for us both.
Sometimes I can trace it back to nightmares (although not a repeating one), it often becomes more severe if Ive had a few nights bad sleep or Im really deprived. However; my sleep habits are sensible as Im usually in bed reading around 10pm, lights off 10:30pm, and waking up at 7:15 every day. I rarely drink caffeine and if so its one cup in the morning minimum. I exercise almost every day and have a good social life. Daily stress is probably of the average twenty-something male living in the UK, nothing too troubling! My room is also quiet and comfortable, no electronics before bed etc as I know these things can exacerbate night-time issues.
Are there any clues as to what could be causing this which I could raise to my GP once my sleep diary is complete?
