Is anyone on the board with AFib taking Xarelto? If so, what side-effects have you experienced?

Prostate Cancer Treatment after TURP

I was diagnosed with gleason 8 prostate cancer about a month ago at age 66. 5 of 12 cores positive; a 6, a few 7's, one 8.
I had TURP (roto rooter) surgery for BPH about ten years ago. I am being pushed toward radiation treatment. The prior TURP surgery supposedly makes RP more difficult or raises the risk of the usual nasty complications. Has anyone had surgery for prostate removal after TURP? Thanks.

Progressive MS?...

Hello...this is my first time ever posting or reaching out on an MS forum. I was diagnosed with MS in July 2014 after 14 years of being told it was all in my head, it was hormonal because I'm a woman, etc, etc. Finally an eye Dr ordered an MRI after some abnormal vision tests and after hearing I had to see a urologist because I suddenly began losing control of my bladder. 1 week later, 3 small lesions were found....2 weeks later I had my first bout of optic neuritis in both eyes that would eventually lead to damage of my right eye.

My neuro immediately started me on Tecfidera which seemed to work for about 6 months until I landed in the hospital with a pretty bad flare up and PPML scare. I stopped the Tecfidera for a short time but when I tried to resume I was hit with all the side effects I hadn't really experienced the first time and was not able to continue. My Dr then decided we should try Copaxone as she felt it was more powerful in treating MS. That drug was NOT for me.

I continued to get prgressively worse in my legs/feet (stiffness, weakness, trouble walking, severe pain) and hands/wrists pain and I developed trigeminal neuralgia which was the worse thing I have ever been through, constant loud ringing in my ears that is deafening and maddening at times... so March of this year my neuro decided to try IVIG treatment and said that if this treatment didn't help it may be some other autoimmune disease and I need to see an MS specialist. The Dr also said that she feels like my lesions aren't showing like they should with all my problems (I've also had a spinal that showed few "o" bands). I've been tested for Lyme and Lupus, both negative. The IVIG treatment did not find me any relief and unfortunately I lost my job as an officer manager a month later because I could no longer handle my responsibilities and a month after that, I lost my health insurance. So I have not been able to see my neuro or afford to see a specialist.

I feel like when all my symptoms started 14 years ago that was actually the disease beginning and I was having flare ups, but no one would "hear" me. I honestly think that it may be primary progressive at this point. I don't have much trust in healthcare though and don't feel like when I do get to finally see my neuro again that I can tell her what I think without her making me feel small or kinda dumb. Thats not a good feeling.

I guess my question is, to all primary progressivers, what were the symptoms that led your Dr to the PPMS diagnosis? From all my research and my own decline it all points to PPMS. Even with the "few too many" lesions, I've read that with primary progressive there are fewer lesions.

Any advice or other stories would be greatly appreciated. I do apologize for the length of my post and if anyone was able to get through it....well, thank you.

Mistie

Codeine out of control

I've been taking codeine for 2 years now and have recently come to the point where I have realised that it's just totally out of control, I have finally sat down and worked out the amount that I take and spend. All in all the figures are shocking and shows that on average I spend over £400 a month on top of getting my prescription.
So for the first time ever I am reducing myself down but a week gone I am just starting to doubt whether it really is going to be that easy. I am taking strict doses only about 3-4 less than usually(but only 5 times a day) and one bigger one at night, but I'm just wondering is my body really going to start getting used to the smaller doses and make me feel well again or will I always be hanging on the verge of feeling like awful all day?
I suppose I'm just feeling scared I can't do it because I really have to I really don't have this sort of income, just I don't know has anyone done it this way before and any advice ..??

Seeing a new PM Dr while still at old one (will he fire me?)

I am currently at a PM dr, but I made the mistake of telling him I got sober in 2007 so he won't give me anything stronger than Suboxone. It just doesn't work for me, but he wont budge. So, I picked up my medical records from my current pain Dr and I plan on sending them to a new one. If I give my records to the new PM Dr that I'm looking into, will they call my current one? If my current dr finds out he'll probably drop me out of spite.

Bruises taking forever to heal

So i'm 26 and at the beginning of May I fell really hard scraped my knee up pretty good and my shin. I also bruised my thigh a big bruise that took forever to show up. Everywhere that hit bruised and it stayed black and blue and purple for about 6 weeks. 3 weeks ago My puppy tripped I fell landed on my knees. They are still black and blue and purple and red and tender. They also showed up really quickly. Now I am an asthmatic and I just switched from Symbicort to breo. singulair for asthma and Lexapro for anxiety. I used to take baby aspirin a couple years
Ago so I know it's not that. I have had to be on Medrol dose packs 3 times this year for the asthma. So are the meds the cause of the bruising taking forever to heal or is it something else? What should I do? I don't know if it's something I should worry about or not. Any ideas on what's causing this and now to get the bruises to heal better would be great. Thanks

Post Vitrectomy for Macular Hole

Hello. I am a 46 year old woman with two younger school aged kids. I was diagnosed with a macular hole about 2 months ago. I just had surgery -a vitrectomy- ten days ago. A few questions: The bubble is getting smaller each day, and now I can see above it quite a bit. But its very cloudy, even with corrective lenses. Is this normal? Sometimes I read things that say "yes it's normal, vision will be blurry for a couple of weeks," and then sometimes I see, "Vision shouldn't be blurry, this could be a problem..." And I worry every minute of every day about not healing well, or having to go in for more surgeries either on this eye or my other eye in the future. How do you deal with this fear and anxiety? My fears are based around my family. I drive my kids to school, volunteer on the PTA, coach after school sports... Will I still be able to do these things? Will I still be able to parent? Even if my hole is closed and my surgeon has great anatomical closure rates, should I still worry about the hole re-opening or getting a retinal tear? I'm very scared and very depressed, not handling this well at all. I welcome all advice. Thank you.

CTS/CuTS ulnar nerve transposition - surgery schedule 8/9

Looking to talk to people who have been down this road before.

What started with shooting pains in my armpit area turned into ring/pinky finger numbness for the last month or so.

I had an EMG 2 weeks ago and last week the doctor told me I have severe ulnar nerve damage and a minor case of CTS in my non-dominant right hand/arm. He wants to do both at the same time.

I'm a little nervous about the surgery. I don't think I've seen one post anywhere where good things were said about it.

I don't want to be out of work for weeks or months.

Should I get a 2nd opinion? What about B12 deficiency? I don't take vitamins maybe I should?

I'm 41 with no known health issues till now.

Comments appreciated!

Itching skin when moist/wet

I've had this problem for quite a long time and it's really frustrating. Every time my skin is moist or wet, parts of my body itches like crazy. It's just my shoulders (mainly the left one), back of my neck and parts of my arms. I can't even put on moisturizer and I hate taking showers because I know what will happen. It's slightly less itchy if I shower in cold or lukewarm water but it doesn't go away completely.
If my skin is dry it's uncomfortable but as soon as I put on moisturizer it starts itching. Sometimes it itches even when my skin is dry. I can't let my hair down without it stroking and itching my shoulders. Does anyone else have this problem?

Almond Milk question

My son is allergic to Almonds (and peanuts and all tree nuts). Is it horrific for my wife to drink almond milk at night after my son has gone to bed? She currently drinks coconut milk due to lactose intolerance. We're on vacation and the only option was almond/coconut blend. She's concerned that the almond milk in her system will somehow impact our son. I think she's "nuts".

Food allergy(?)- body rash

Hi,

This is my first post here, although I used to post here quite frequently as a teenager (15 years ago!) but can't remember my username, password, email etc from that time!

I have been experiencing a strange all over body/face rash that occurs around once-twice a week and primarily in the evenings. I have obviously tried to narrow down the foods I have eaten/products used etc but can't seem to find the culprit. This has been happening for around 3 years but has become worse and more frequent recently.

I've been to my doctors twice about it but both times been told that theres not alot they can do to work out what it is/what to do. At the moment, the rash is just unpleasant looking and very hot to touch so I don't think I'm in any danger or anything.. however, I would like to know what is causing it so I can avoid whatever it is!

As a new poster, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post photos of it (that don't identify myself) Obviously I realize nobody here is qualified to diagnose or even suggest anything but it would be nice for someone else to share their experiences or identify with me!

Alone in Harm OCD thoughts about loved ones?

Hi - I have had issues with my OCD (specifically Harm OCD) where I get harm thoughts and images about me harming my precious family - currently about my precious grandson! I'm known to be a very kind, sensitive and loving person and I've never been violent nor do I have any feelings to be violent! It's mentally killing me - I am on meds and see a therapist - my family is so supportive but I feel so bad for them and me because I know they really can't do anything to help me and I know they feel bad that there's nothing they can really do to help me - I sometimes feel like I need to confess my thoughts to them - at the same time I don't want them to feel sad or scared about the harm thoughts I've had - they say they know I'm not a violent person and that I'd never do anything - I know from what I've read (online and in books about OCD) that usually people with Harm OCD worry they will want to act on their thoughts or that maybe they really want to harm someone but I don't have those fears at all! My main problem is just that I feel so bad for having the harm thoughts and images in the first place! I also feel bad when they see me upset - this is affecting my home life and my job - it's hard to turn off my OCD and anxiety when I walk in the door at work but I'm expected to :( (per my boss: "do your best to leave your personal problems at the door" - needless to say, I'm trying very hard to find a new job!)

I also find that when I do have Harm OCD issues I feel very drawn to reading online and in my books about Harm OCD - I guess I'm looking for reassurance?! I find myself spending a lot of time and energy on this - is this constant reading up on Harm OCD a compulsion? I guess I want to know why I have Harm OCD - I tend to feel sorry for myself, as in, "why me"? and "my family didn't ask for this!"

thank you for your time -
:(

Floating stool & film?

Hi all, I was recently diagnosed with SIBO following a bout of either food poisoning or a parasitic infection. My symptoms were consistent with Giardiasis - terrible gas, diarrhea, and tons of mucus - but of course I tested negative (not sure if the lab even tested the stool sample because it seemed like they lost my results). After a round of rifaximin and amoxicillin a few months ago I feel worlds better, and even followed a protocol from the book 'The Gut Health Protocol.' My remaining symptoms though are still slight gas after meals, and consistently normal-looking floating stools with what I believe (after internet research) a clear film of mucus that floats on top of the water. Has anyone had this problem following parasites or SIBO? I believe stools float from the gas and not malabsorption? Other than these symptoms I feel fine. My GI assumes it's now a gallbladder problem but has done no further testing as of yet, but I'm wondering if I should have more stool samples done if it is a parasite. Any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated :)

There is a chance of being pregnant?(Story below)

Hello!
First of all, sorry for my bad English.
So..I was with my girlfriend, and my penis reached her vagina, but i don't entered to her, i don't ejaculated. She is virgin.I am worried and i am not sure if the pre-ejaculate contained sperms, because i took a shower before that and i was peeing too and how I readed it kills the sperms inside the pre-ejaculate.I am worried about that this pre-ejaculate should somehow get inside her vagina? She was on the 28.th day of her cycle/period,that was 3 days ago and her menstruation still doesn't came since that.
Could she be pregnant?
An other fact is that she got the menstruation 2 times in a row, first time light and 2 days later normally. That could be the cause of being late of her menstruation?
From that, and with these facts, there is any chance for being pregnant?
We're worried.Very worried.
Sorry for my bad English,I am from Romania.
Thanks for the answer and for the help.

timeframe for lapidus procedure

I have learned several things after having a lapidus procedure with 3 screws done 10 weeks ago: 1. Everyone heals at different rates, 2. TIME is your best friend, and 3. Foot surgery is MAJOR surgery- trauma to the foot and not an easy feat mentally!

Thinking of the first point, I thought I would share my timeline so far. For those of you recovering and those of you contemplating the surgery, perhaps this will help you. Although each surgeon seems to recommend different timeframes, this is what I have dealt with so far. I would have LOVED to read this in the initial weeks of my own recovery. So many question marks, so much impatience.

Week 1- prescription pain meds needed; stayed in bedroom, NWB (non weight bearing- crutches); wearing aircast boot from now until week 11; elevated foot almost 100%

Week 2- only OTC pain meds needed (including Tylenol pm for difficulty sleeping) but no ibuprofen (interferes with bone growth); continued to stay in house, but was able to go up and down stairs once a day, still NWB/crutches; propped foot up often

Weeks 3-6- able to leave house from day 15 on, still NWB/crutches. Foot still swollen, still purplish at times; iced foot frequently, still propped foot up; Had xrays done at 3 weeks to make sure things were progressing as planned.

Week 6-7- partial weight bearing with crutches

Week 8- weight bearing with one crutch; had xrays done to make sure it was healing as planned

Week 9- full weight bearing with no crutches (hooray!); able to drive for the first time with a post op shoe (double hooray!!); able to remove aircast boot at night (triple hooray!!!); foot still purple and swollen; pains from time to time in screws, but not enough to warrant any meds

Week 10- should be my last week of the aircast. Next week I will move to a post-op shoe for 3 to 5 weeks, then a regular shoe. Hoping to resume my passion of running at the 4 month mark.

If this helps just one person to compare and feel better about their timeframe, it was worth the time to write it. :)

Best of luck to all who are preparing for or in the middle of recovery!

Constant feeling of having to belch

I have had the feeling of a lump in my throat for about 3 months now. It kind of feels like I have to belch. As the day goes on it bothers me more. If I am stressed for any reason it gets worse and my neck gets very tight. I get relief when sleeping. I added weighted squats to me exercise routine as I wanted to get really healthy for my upcoming 50th birthday, but I feel like I might have injured something instead. From my research I am thinking this is a hiatal hernia. Has anyone had something similar?

Oxyneo Hell

Hi, after years on pain meds, very high dose when my pain was so bad I thought of ending my life, I am going off them. I hope I can handle the pain once I stop but really the meds do not stop the pain anyways so why put myself through hell any longer. I want to wake up without that feeling most of us on these know all too well, gotta take my meds. I am so tired of planning my life around a medication. I'm tired of feeling sick when I am getting close to the time to take them, it never lets you forget about it. My life is dead because of this medication, it has changed me in so many ways. I believe those of us who were put on OXYNEO are being used for experiments as it is a new drug that was developed in such a short time without any long term studies. We are their long term studies and I know this medication will end up doing more harm then good. I think in 10 years we will find out this medication has caused users severe medical issues because of the polymer/additive put in to make it less abuser friendly. Because of my higher dose it will take me at least 1 year to get off this ride but I will, I have to, I am too old to have this problem to deal with and I have had enough. My plan is to get some 10mg and 5 mg if possible next month and reduce 5mg every week/7 days. At -20mg a month I will be down to 40mg a day in 6 months. Then I will try to do the same but if necessary will reduce 5mg every 14 days if I feel too much pain and I cannot handle it.That would bring it to 10 months to be at zero and hope to feel over it by1 year. I will try and put my journey on this forum with hopes it might help other or maybe invite others to join me on this path!

Blurry Vision After Lasik

I had lasik surgery on both eyes on 13 july, 2016. The Dr said that everything is healing as planned. My vision is blurry for near and alittle for far (I was far-sighted). He told me although most patients see immediate results, some do take longer to heal. I been very anxious about the healing and am afraid that the surgery just didn't work for me. Could this blurriness be normal? I am squinting to see better, any advice?

Is there by any chance I could get pregnant??

Hi I'm 20 years old, and I come from a very strict family, where sex is always a no. I've never had any sort of sex relationship with anyone, but unfortunately two days ago my partner *** on my vagina, I've already wiped it off but I'm not sure if the remaining sperm could have entered my vagina or not. Is there by any chance I could get pregnant?? And I'm still a virgin, my partner have never ejaculated. Pls help me out. And how can I prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sex.

How do I begin to trust him again?..

My husband and I have been together for over 8 years and married for a year and a half. It's not been all sunshine and roses in our relationship and have separated once before. To make long story short when we moved closer to attend school is when I had an accident and was unable to work. I had to be on crutches for over 3 months and it was miserable but it had put all of the financial and housework burden on him on top of taking care of me.
I felt guilty because we had always shared everything 50/50. We were struggling to make bills and our relationship is what suffered. I found out during all of this that he was talking with multiple women on dating sites... It crushed me and to top it off he said it was my fault...my fault because of me weight and that I was not helping out more around the house.
I was a wreck and could barley look at myself in the mirror, he had told me before that I needed to lose weight for my health but then it became more about my looks. The most devestated I have ever felt was when he told me that I'm no longer attractive to him... It felt like he ripped my heart out and shattered it. And It's not like we met and I was skinny but I had gained maybe 15lbs due to the accident. I don't think I've ever looked at myself the same since...
It has been 3 years since that all happened. He has since apologized for his actions and how he treated me but I still have been having resentment and worry if he will do it again... Is there anyone that can share some wisdom and help me learn how to trust my husband again?? I do want to trust him but my self esteem still has never recovered.. Every time I bring it up to him asks why I have to keep punishing him -_- it still affects me to this day and all I want to do is make this work..

Keeping track of blood pressure readings.

Hi all,
I’ve recently developed a FREE android app that allows an individual to keep track of blood pressure vitals using a very simple interface. I myself deal with high blood pressure, and find keeping tabs of my daily readings using the old fashioned method to be quite tedious at times. For me at least, keeping digital records is much easier and more convenient. This app also allows you to save your readings to an excel file in case you need a hard copy at some point in the future. You can down load it free from the google play store here if you wish to try:
https://play(dot)google(dot)com/store/apps/details?id=com.javanoob.bp.bp_ledger

I’m currently working on a version for iOS.

Thank you.

Gall bladder or ulcer or something else

Hi everyone I'm 40 and male
I've had tenderness under my right chest in and off for ten years.
In the last year it's become more frequently. I have never had a pain attack only a bit sore after eating too much.
I use to love my wine and over indulge often ! But have cut out drinking to once a week then once a fortnight and aiming for monthly.

It feels like pressure , squeezing or a knot where you put try hand under yr right breast.
I've had h plyroic twice but did tests recently and they were negative.
I've had 2 lots of liver tests
One had slightly high Alt and next one Alt was normal but GGT was 5 points higher.

Since eating healthy and cutting out fats etc I've lost 24 kg since November which is great.
I have been on losec for st least 10 years and have always suffered horrible heartburn.
The tenderness doesn't seem to be good or alcohol related. Also being an insominiac I don't eat much during the day and ear more at night.

Any ideas greatly received my doctor said could be a gall bladder issue and if it didn't settle to go for a scab. My nurse thinks it will be OK and is not that I talk to her more. Other symptoms lots if gas as soon as I eat I belch a lot and also the other end lol

Distressing odd objects

My diet has, for the past year or so, been highly unhealthy. For the last month, I have passed very loose stools. In the last passing, it was again loose, however this time there were objects floating. The best I can describe them is as small dark balls. I have never experienced such a phenomenal before, and I don't want to go to the doctor if it turns out to be something I couldn't digest or something.

condom broke while having sex.

hi
i was really worried as my condom broke while having sex.
It was on the 29th July night when I was under the influence of alcohol and had sex with a prostitute and the condom broke. When having sex I got to know that it broke so I took out my penis and removed the condom then after few minutes of masturbation I came out side and then wasted my genitals with water. After few hours I started getting all types of thinking what will happen now, the fear the anxiety the worry every thing came across my mind. I couldn't sleep the whole night then after few searched in the internet I got the ideal to go the hospital and talk to the doctor.
After the few hours of waiting in the hospital and meet the doctor. He asked me questions and I told him the story as motioned above.

He prescribed some medicines they were:
Zithromax 250 mg - 4 tablets (I had to eat all four of them together as soon as I got them)
Edurant Tab25 mg - 28 tablets (once a day after dinner with the Ricoir-Em)
Ricoir-Em - 28 tablets
Rocephin Im 250 mg - 1 vial (This was the injection I got it in my butt)

Then the doctor said after 6 weeks go do a blood test of few things which he mentions like which ones to get tested.

The doctors said do not worry about it much.

After visiting the doctor I am was bit relaxed and not much worrying but still I have things coming across my head saying what if I get STD or bigger then that like Hiv or aids.

I am writing this here because I feel this website will help me with something to feel better . I read a post similar to mine which was posted in this website itself which I came across from google search.
Thank you

Sexual health

Hi I'm 20 years old, and I come from a very strict family, where sex is always a no. I've never had any sort of sex relationship with anyone, but unfortunately two days ago my partner *** on my vagina, I've already wiped it off but I'm not sure if the remaining sperm could have entered my vagina or not. Is there by any chance I could get pregnant?? And I'm still a virgin, my partner have never ejaculated. Pls help me out. And how can I prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sex.

adjustment to new glasses

I recently got new glasses with a new rx. I have astigmatism and apparently my rx changed. Looking through the new lenses, everything definitely looks brighter and clearer. If I look through my old lenses now, I am surprised how blurry things look. I've been wearing these new lenses for about three weeks now. During about the first week I was having some trouble and felt rather disoriented because some surfaces looked slanted or warped. This seemed to especially be the case with surfaces I was nearer too, and in less than perfect light--say the kitchen counter when cutting vegetables. Over the three weeks I've been wearing the new lenses this has gotten better. But I am still having this disorienting experience of things seeming somehow off or somewhat slanted when I am observing surfaces that are fairly near to me. It is better than before but still an issue.
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they eventually got used to their new glasses. Should I expect this to keep improving over time or do I need new lenses? I have heard that this may be due to the astigmatism part of an rx being too strong, but I'm wondering how they will know what the right strength is for me if it was really incorrect the first time. If it's just trial and error, couldn't my second pair be equally problematic?
Thanks for your feedback.

How to return to walking?

Hello everyone, I have broken right ankle specifically the posterior malleolus that I broke back on June 1st from trying to ride my bike up curb. I was in a CAM walker boot for eight weeks. I didn't require surgery. On July 6th, I was able to be fwb while wearing the boot. On July 26th, my orthopedic doctor said I didn't need the boot anymore and has me walking with regular shoes. Right now I am walking around but limping which easily tires me out and makes me hot. The doctor said I didn't need any physical therapy but I am what kinds of exercises I can do to help strengthen my leg and get my normal gait back. Also how long can I expect to be dealing with swelling which happens if I do a lot of walking. This is my first ever broken bone so this whole experience is new to me. Just want to able to walk normally and be myself again.

Very Slow Heart Beat & Irregular Rhythm

Hello,

I wonder if you can kindly help me.

I have been having heart problems for 3 years now.

I was having severe palpitations and I could hear my heart beat in the back of my head and I had to go to the emergency room several times.

I was given 25 mg. Metoprolol Tartrate for my heart and blood pressure, 0.5 mg Ativan and 50 mg Trazodone for my anxiety.

Over the past 3 years, my palpitations have been under control.

However, over the past few weeks I've been having NEW symptoms.

I've been experiencing hard, odd and throbbing/pulsing beats from time to time.

I bought a new blood pressure machine to see if my blood pressure was under control, and the new machine showed that I was also having irregular heartbeat rhythms.

I went to see my primary care physician on Tuesday, July 26th, and he gave me a referral to see a cardiologist.

However, the cardiologist didn't have an appointment available until 2 weeks from now.

This morning, when I took my blood pressure again, it not only showed an irregular heartbeat rhythm...but also a heart rate of 38.

I decided to walk on a treadmill since I thought that may help.

I walked for 1 hour at a slow pace. I was wearing a heart rate monitor while walking.

While walking, I noticed that on several occasions my heart rate dropped to 54, 53, and 55 before jumping back up to 114 and 115.

After I stopped walking, I decided to continue to wear the heart rate monitor for about an hour in the house in order to observe my heart rate.

I noticed that on many occasions, my heart rate dropped to between 41 and 48 and on one occasion it fell to 38 beats per minute.

Moreover, each time that happened, my heart would remain at this low rate for one or two minutes before jumping up to the 70s or 90s.

I can't really tell if I'm having any symptoms since over the past 3 years, I have always been feeling dizzy, feeling like I may pass out, feeling odd heartbeats and feeling tired.

3 years ago, the doctors did an ultrasound of my heart and a stress test and they couldn't find anything very unusual aside from mitral valve prolapse.

The event recorder showed that I was experiencing many extra beats, premature ventricular contractions, etc. but the doctor said it was nothing dangerous.

They also did MRIs and CT scans of my brain 3 years ago and couldn't find anything.

So I've been living with the dizziness, feeling like I may pass out, etc. for 3 years. It is a miserable life but I've had to live with these symptoms.

However, over the past few weeks that my heart has become worse, all of these symptoms have also gotten worse.

Does anyone know have any idea as to what is going on with my heart?

I'm very worried and don't know what to do.

The cardiologist's appointment isn't until 2 weeks from now. And all medical offices are closed since it's the weekend.

Any advise would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your time and kind assistance.

Tom

Neuro appointment in 14 months

I was referred to a neurologist at the end of May due to increasing symptoms of MS or other similar disease process. I received a call today that my appointment for initial exam is July 17, 2017 !1 I know that living in Ontario Canada ensures waiting lists, but I'm wondering if this sounds reasonable ? I have never had to wait so long for any kind of specialised intervention before. My peripheral vision is starting to be compromised and my eye Dr. thinks that it is a neurological issue. If anyone from Ontario has had this problem with waiting so long I'd love to know how you dealt with it. Any ideas of what I can do would be appreciated. We do not have the option of private medicine in Canada. Thanks everyone.

Sinus infection gone wrong?

I honestly am not sure where exactly to post this, so forgive me if I end up using the wrong categorization, I just know that I need some help.

The other morning I woke up and rolled over in bed and it felt like the whole world rolled over with me. When I was turning my head, the rest of the room moved, too. I got out of bed and was so dizzy I was walking to the side. I felt super nauseous and my skin was very clammy to the point of almost dripping with sweat. I forced myself to vomit because I thought that would make me feel better, but I only dry heaved. No fever, in fact, my body temperature was unusually low (around 97.5). I felt miserable. I went back to bed and pretty much slept the whole day. What could that have been? And how do I prevent that from ever happening again?

Just a brief background of my general health:
- I have been told for several years now that there appears to be fluid behind my eardrum, and although I've been given medication, I still feel as if the fluid is still present. It makes my ear feel full and my head feel kind of dizzy.
- Had an intense episode of Vertigo that the doctor attributed to the fluid behind my eardrum, so maybe it's related to my episode?
- I have had 2 migraines in my 26 years of life due to extremely stressful situations (losing family members, new jobs, major life changes etc.) Doctor thinks I just need to learn to handle stress better, which I don't doubt, I'm stressing constantly. I get tension headaches from stressing at least once a week.
- I have had a panic attack once in my life after my dad died, and ever since then it has left me shaken and just hyper vigilant of any and all physical and emotional sensations.
- My white blood cell count is lower than average, but my hematologist believes it's normal for me.
- I've been told that I'm vitamin D deficient, which I take multivitamins to correct.

All in all, I just really want to know what the hell that episode even was. And also how to get rid of the fluid behind my eardrum. I think there is a direct correlation between the two. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Scrotal Dermatitis

I recieved oral sex with a csw with a condom(did not cover my penis fully). One week later I developed a red rash on my scrotum which was diagnosed by a dermatologist as scrotal dermatitis. However I didn't not have any itching in the area.
Now I'm in my 5th week and for the full of last week been having persistent back and neck pain. Now I also have chest pain that comes from the back to front on the right side when I breathe deep. I have also been smoking more than usual since my exposure. I am really worried. Are these symptoms of hiv? Can I take a PCR test now to confirm?

What could this be?

Slow heart beat and medication

I would be grateful if someone could tell me if there is a link to taking levothyroxine, desmotabs and calcium tablets. I have been told I have a slow heart rate less than 60 bpm. I also get fluttering and palpatations. I never pass out or feel dizzy, go out for a walk or cycle ride most days and last winter was going swimming about four times a week. I'm 63 yrs old and feel quite fit with plenty of energy. Just wondering if there is a connection that could cause this. Many thanks for reading this.

LPR Came Back in Spades! Advice, Please!

Now I finally understand that the coughing and tons of mucus I produce after catching a cold is always almost entirely LPR.

I was diagnosed with LPR about 15 years ago. At the time, I took Aciphex for several months, and the problem went away. Except I didn't realize -- it has never really gone away. It is always waiting in the wings. I don't think anyone is ever really cured of this.

Almost every time I get sick with a cold, it results in a chronic cough and tons of mucus. It feels like the mucus is coming from my sinuses (because I blow tons of clear sticky thick mucus from my nose), but it's really not. It's in my throat. I'm clearing my throat all the time, too and doing this "back of the throat snorting thing" that is really gross.

Of course, in the past, I had been treated for sinus infections (sometimes real, sometimes not), bronchitis, allergies, the gamut. I have even been on steroids (which stopped the coughing immediately, but messed up my liver enzymes and my thyroid for a while).

In October 2015 I got sick (and did actually get a sinus infection) while visiting Peru. Looking back, I now totally understand why this happened: dry thin air at high altitude, many rich dinners, overeating, and alcohol. A perfect storm for LPR to rear its head again.

I was sick for two months after that trip with a cough that just wouldn't stop. Not realizing that it was LPR (thinking it was bronchitis) my doctor gave me a dose of steroids, tapering for two weeks. That stopped the cough in its tracks and I was "cured." But no.......

I caught another cold a few months later, and BAM, the cough came right back, just as bad as it had been before taking the steroids! That's when I remembered the LPR diagnosis from 15 years ago. I started taking Prilosec twice a day, and it got much better (but it took time; almost two months). I wasn't really watching my diet or doing any of the things that you're supposed to do with LPR because I went on another trip to France! How can you be on a bland low fat diet with no wine in France?!

I saw my ENT doctor, and she talked to me about LPR. She also suggested that I resume allergy shots because my sinuses did seem a little inflamed. I was on the Prilosec for about a month and a half. Then after coming home from France, I switched to Zantac and then to Gaviscon. Then nothing. And I was fine. Resumed my normal diet, which included chocolate and mint gum. (I don't smoke, rarely drink alcohol, and only drink herbal tea with has no acid).

I got over that episode and was doing great. I am now getting allergy shots and am almost up to the maintenance dose.

But, two weeks ago, my adult daughter came back from an overseas trip sick with a cold. As hard as tried to avoid her and practice excellent hygiene, I still caught the freaking cold. And yup, the LPR has come back in spades. Within a week I was coughing again with tons of mucus. As they say, it was "Deja Vu all over again" LOL.

BUT -- This time, the moment I began coughing, I began taking Zantac. That didn't seem to work very well, so I switched to Prilosec twice a day, and saw my ENT. She looked in my nose and ears and listened to my lungs and said, Yup, no infections, it's LPR. Go see my Gastro doctor and get an upper endoscopy.

That's where I am today.

When I started taking the Prilosec and avoiding acidic foods, I noticed that the thick sticky clear phlegm began to feel lighter and more foamy in my throat.

I still have a a LOT of phlegm in my throat and I'm still blowing it out of my nose and doing the gross "back of the throat snorting thing" to clear it away. I'm trying not to cough, so as not to irritate my throat any further.

I hate having to take a PPI drug. 15 years ago, it almost totally depleted my body of B-12! Fortunately, I now understand this and I take an excellent B-12 supplement several times per week. I always get my B-12 level checked when I do my twice-annual blood test (to keep an eye on my thyroid disease).

Besides avoiding acidic foods, chocolate, mint, alcohol -- is there anything else I can do? How about Apple Cider Vinegar? Does that help? Digestive enzymes? (I have some good ones, should I take them?) This is just SO UNCOMFORTABLE and I feel like I have no appetite right now because I always have this heavy mucusy feeling in the back of my throat.

I'm seeing my GI doctor some time soon and will definitely get an upper endoscopy in the near future. I really hope that I don't need get surgery!

I appreciate any advice you can give. I know that you guys have been in the trenches with this.

Chronic BV & depressed.

I need to get this off me. I've been crying about it this morning. I've had BV off and on for years. And at this point, idk what else to do. When I first went to see a doctor, she passed it off as a yeast infection and gave me antifungal cream that didn't work. Then I went back, but to a different doctor. She gave me the oral antibiotics (metronidazole) and antifungal cream. Didn't work. I was on the oral antibiotics twice (maybe 3, I can remember) and it didn't work. The BV kept coming back. So I went back AGAIN and got the gel form of the metronidazole that you apply vaginally. It helped. The smell went away. The weird color discharge went away. I just had an itch, which I assumed was a side effect from the antibiotics. I used Monistat, which only made me itch more. Before I knew it, the weird color discharge was back. And so was the BV. The itching got worse as my cycle got closer. It ended Tuesday. And the itching hasn't been profuse. Not bad at all, actually. So I decided to try Rephresh. I helped a lot with the after period smell, and the general smell from the BV, but that slight itch is still there. Idk what else to do to get this BV under control and keep it under control. I take probiotics like they're going out of style. I wipe front to back. I take showers instead of baths. I don't douche. I'm not sexually active. I drink water all day. I just started drinking cranberry (unsweetened) juice again. Idk what else. The last time I went to the doctor, I asked her about boric acid capsules and she said no b/c it was acid. I asked her about Rephresh, and again. She said no. I'm lost. And depressed. My confidence is the lowest it's ever been and I feel hopeless. I want to be involved with someone but how I can I when I have this going on. I don't want things to be this way for the rest of my life. My family says that maybe this is something that I'm just gonna have to "accept." Are you kidding me? Says two people who's vaginas are working just fine. But yeah. If there are any suggestions. Anyone wants to vent with me. Any words of encouragement. Anyone who is or was going through the same thing as me. Please feel free to say whatever you wish to under here.

*excuse any typos in here*

lonely and can't find anyone to chat with

I googled and found this site, and I thought I would post and see if I get replies or not. A little background on me....i'm 46 and have been divorced for a few years. I'm a pretty shy guy when it comes to the ladies - or maybe, it's more like I have a fear and hatred of rejection. Despite that, the first year after my divorce I did have some sexual encounters with a few different women. Not really much of my doing, they kind of fell into my lap, so to speak. But since my last time - going on nearly 3 years now - I have had nothing at all. I don't mind too much, because I'm kind of a loner and I really don't want a committed realtionship. But I do miss the sex, and I do get horny alot, and during those times recently I really have really desired to talk with real women but I can't seem to find any. I have some friends that I have talked sexually to, but I feel like I've done that too often and I have gotten to the point of annoyance with them. I've tried to seach for places online but I can't find anything. THe only times I have even gotten responses, turns out to be scammers from Ghana or something.

So, I guess my question is...does anyone have any advice for me? Anyone know of where I can meet real people to chat online or whatever? I know women are much different from men, but I find it hard to believe that there are some women that would be interested in this big old world.

Please help ! this is causing me so much worry :(

I'm Omar and I'm 17 years old. I suffered from constipation for quite a long time and I don't drink big quantities of water. With that being said, I've had an anal fissure which I guess somehow developed into a external hemorrhoid. I saw a doctor and scheduled an appointment for a surgery the next day. After the surgery I started a diet full of fiber and drank alot of water and i started using laxatives. I also noticed bleeding in the first day but I was told that it was normal. Today is the 5th or 6th day after the operation. I noticed a painful, unbleeding swelling in the opposite side of the operation, I was told that it's just a normal swelling that occured after the operation and that it will reduce by itself. But I am really concerned and scared that it is a new hemorrhoid or an anal abscess ( even that I take good care of cleaning the area of operation ). I have an checkup with my doctor next Monday but this is causing me so much worry and I need to figure out what it is since I don't want to go through the operation all over again. And there is a huge change in the shape of the anus. I mean like is it okay or normal for the anus to be distorted and out of shape ? is it permanent ? is it normal for someone my age to suffer from all of this ? please help.

Esophageal Cancer Fear

Hello,

I am a 26 year old male who has experienced heartburn on and off for the past five or so years. About two months ago I began to experience upper abdominal pain after meals which led to a decrease in appetite. One month ago I began to experience difficulty swallowing with a feeling of food getting stuck in my throat at times, and also lower in my chest at other times. Around this time I began to experience frequent and severe heartburn and indigestion as well as chest pressure/pain in lower chest/upper abdomen when eating. I went to my primary care physician who said it was probably GERD and prescribed me 20mg Prilosec to be taken once daily. I began to take the medication and after a little over a week everything seemed to clear up. The swallowing difficulty and heartburn were almost non-existent at that time. Unfortunately, one day about a week ago at lunch time the symptoms returned all at once and now seem to be worse than ever. As a side note, I have not vomited or lost any weight during this time period.

I have an appointment with a Gastroenterologist in about two and a half weeks, but I am having extreme anxiety about when it is that is causing my symptoms. It should be noted that I am a very anxious person to begin with and probably suffer from Hyprchondria.

If anyone has any experience with these symptoms please fill me in. I am wondering if this could all be an annoying case of reflux esophagitis, or if there could be something much more sinister at play such as cancer.

Root tethering on basis of scar

Hi I have had two microdiscectomys over the last year and a half each time my symptons get worse. The pain I experiance is constant down my left leg and foot I wake up a couple of times a night with cramp like pain which is quite unbearable often waking my wife as I am shouting and screaming, in the day I have a constant pain which shoots all down my leg and my left foot has not been the same since my first operation (which is quite bizzarre as my original pain was shooting pain down my left leg and stabbing in my ankle but did not go into my foot). I get burning sensation on my toes and the bottom of my foot which is like someone putting a blow torch to it I am unable to drive now because of this I can't even wear shoes or trainers I constantly wear flip flops as these seem the most comfortable if I try to walk barefoot I am of-balance because my left foot feels like it is not mine. The medication I currently take is 2700mg gabapentin 1000mg naproxin 300mg tramadol and 25 mg amitriptyline. My last visit to my surgeon where I also had another mri was a couple of weeks ago he said that my discs didnt look to bad and that I had root tethering on the basis of scar. Hew added that another operation could fix it but he could also add to it aswell so does not want to go down that route just yet. He has now referred me to some pain clinic to see if injections will work he also said there is a waiting list so God knows when I will hear anything of them. I asked if there was some sort of pain relief I could take even if it was just something at night or when the pain is resally bad in the day he did not want to suggest anything untill I had been to the pain clinic. I feel like I have just been tossed aside as he has operated twice and not acheived anything (made it worse if anything) My GP won't give me anything else as she does not want to go against the surgeon so I was wondering what people do when the pain is unbearable as this is effecting my family life. I am putting on weight as I am not that mobile I am only 36 and my life has come to a bit of a halt. sorry for the long post but this is one of my coping mechanisms when the pain is bad I try to focus on something and ride it out

Post-Surgery Vision fluctuation not exactly Dry Eye

This information is good for doctors not just patients.

Dry eye causes visions blur because as with any glass or plastic surface the fluid over it smooths the surface dents more perfectly for light refraction with a fluid over it. Thus dry eye means the outside surface is dry and less clear.

BUT this condition i am reading of many posts here (after RK and now i see also) articles say Lasik too is not merely dry eye but rather caused from internal lack of fluid. While sleeping the eye dries and the cornea flattens so the vision is more far-sighted and while awake drinking fluids the vision of the inflating (swelling, normalizing fluid retention) pushes toward myopia again. I was -4.25 in both eyes and my RK gave me hawk eyes in total darkness where i could awake in the night and see and READ the binder titles of all the books on the bedroom shelves. However, happily going to work without glasses I experienced 2-4 hours and became -2 myopia. I was stupid to let a doctor who misread this touch my eyes again (2nd surgery). It made me far-sighted blind for 30 days. That is to say i lived on a balcony and the far horizon of the woods was the only think clear. Felt suicidal.

The additional surgery had changed my fluctuation (from its perfect 0 to its worse -2) into a wake up as +1 and go to sleep as a -1. Needless to say getting older has increased another +2 so that i wake up +3 and go to sleep +1. I go nuts. If I had let it be, the increase of +2 would have balanced me as the wake up +1 to go to sleep at -1 without 2nd surgery, just wait 10 years to get there. At worst a day of wake up at +2 to zero perfect. Instead i would guess my current vision as wake up +5 and go to sleep at +1. Needless to say a vision appointment is useless because no one gives you three appointments in one day or in one week at different day hours. I cannot say anyone in the medical field truly cares which merely strengthens my religious beliefs of a world ready to be changed by God, or destroyed, or purged by the big disaster.

When i had glasses -4.25 i could write with my nose on paper with a pencil tip so sharp the letters were as small as you can get in a computer true font laser printer. Now at this moment at 6am dawn (my face 20 inches from the screen) i am wearing TWO reader glasses of +2 and +2, and have to put a THIRD pair on if i want my attention 12 inches from screen.

LESSON learned is do not go for second surgery. Be happy what you got with the first, go by your farsighted readers. As for the doctor quack here is the proof he knows nothing other than make money with his new machine doing 1000s of the Hispanic poverty in Chicago. I KNOW photography and this doctor says oh you have pin-holing. Not so, when you pinhole the camera lense then it is true you NEED more light to see but the depth-of-field from fore to aft (the span that is regarded as clear focus) is much greater. A pinhole will give you 10 feet away to 15 feet away as focus instead of 12 feet to 13 feet. So as soon as he said that i should have refused the further cheaper secondary surgery of 4 more RK cuts increasing from 8 to 12 cuts.

NEXT time of surgery MUST be exact same time of day as the measure of the vision and eye. My appointments for vision and measure were at noon, and my surgeries were between 6-7:30am NEVER have surgery on your eyes at a different time than the computer measured your eyes. If anyone denies this, contradicts this, edits of delete this they have the heart of a selfish egotistical demon. THIS is specifically the cause of my surgical damage and heeding this advice to match surgical time with time of eye-measure or refuse the surgery is completely connected to the horror of your future. I cry alot tripping on things. Was it worth 10-12 years of no glasses, ease, looking-pretty?
signed Sorry for 2nd surgeries, Rick

I need advice!!

Backgroud - happily married for nearly 20 years.
Problems - Lying husband (and in the process has managed to raise 3 kids who can lie easily). . . And the penny has only just dropped. I TRUSTED HIM and it hurts sooo much. (I know I over react-ptsd).
Complications - On other ends of the spectrum re how much/how little teenagers should help out in the home. He listens and talks the talk, but the bottom line is - he doesn't give a &/@;'. . . . He has just said stuff to shut me up. Well now I have given up! He has backed me in a corner and I have come to a full stop, literally. I haven't lifted a finger all week, since he stopped talking to me!!
I see no way out.

Any help welcomed. . . .

Hi all

I am 45 and had a mental breakdown at Christmas from loss and stress. I am currently on disability for depression and doing courses etc.

I also have COPD and over the last few years have taken a lot of anti Biotics because of chest infections.

I take 10 mg Diazipam and Anti depressants. Plus inhalers for asthma and COPD.

As part of my treatment and after losing my business i am having a makeover.

I am slowly making changes to my diet. I was married 16 years which ended so never shopped or cooked ever.

After researching I realised the amount of anti Biotics would have a huge effect on my stomach etc. I do get mouth thrush a lot and athletes foot. Brain fog etc.

Along with reducing a lot of sugar out of my diet which was loads of chocolate, puddings, fruit juice dilute etc I started to take a probiotic. I felt fine for 2 weeks then started getting die off which I am thinking is candida. To help with the die off I started taking 2 vitamin c 500 a day. Also added X3 Molybdenum which really help with the die off. I take the probiotic every other day now. I have added an omega3 capsule also. I intend to add a 3 in 1 magnesium, calcium and Vit D 3 in the next few days. I have ordered some Milk Thistle tablets to help flush things through. I intend to keep up the vitamins , improve my diet bit by bit and add Diatomaceous Earth when ready to continue the detox and keep up the probiotics.

This is a lot of vitamins but I have not looked after myself. I was an alcoholic and drug addict for a long time but been clean 16 years now.

Any advice or thoughts on this welcome ?

Please help me!!

Hello everybody! I'm new to this board, looking for help and some support from you all.

I am dealing with HSV-2, ex boyfriend never told me that he had this virus. It sucks bigtime. Seems like the outbreaks never stop, and it has been 8 months now. I take OOO, OLE, and L-Lysine every morning. I also apply coconut oil to the blisters, which helps alot, now I can finally walk normally (almost).

What else can I do to stop these constant outbreaks? I read some earlier posts about the dmso/h202 treatment. Does it work? I am learning to change what kinds of foods and beverages that I consume, now.

Has anyone found successful ways to stop outbreaks??

Thanks!!

Persistent vertigo that triggers several other symptoms

In February, my girlfriend had an attack of rotational vertigo at night, including nausea and vomiting. As several otolaryngologists later confirmed, her right vestibular organ had failed, but almost recovered in the following weeks, while the vertigo persisted and grew more and more sensitive to triggers. Since then, she has been unable to watch TV, work on a PC / tablet / phone or even play cards without triggering vertigo. The fact that the vertigo always triggers a domino effect of other symptoms doesn’t exactly help, either. She knows these symptoms from the Lyme disease she had ten years ago (no bacteria present since then): supraventricular cardiac arrhythmia and polyneuropathic pain (Lyrica doesn’t help much) in the whole body. She also has very unpleasant neurological problems that feel like an electric current is running through the body and a very strong sleeping disorder. Especially her back is very sensitive to mechanical manipulation like massages, or even pressure that is applied when she leans back in a chair. Every (even light) physical activity and also flickering and looking at fast movements (TV, monitors etc.) also triggers the domino effect.
The usual neurological tests (EEG, testing of acoustic nerve, ultrasonic testing of all cervical and cranial blood vessels, CT of cranium and cervical spine) didn’t show up any problems.
Neither classical psychians nor natural health professionals couldn’t help us to now. The classical doctors just focus on the vertigo and ignore everything else. They have excluded Morbus Meniere, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and servical spine syndrome by now. They only prescribe medication against the symptoms: anti-convulsiva (Lyrica), neuroleptica (Dominal), antihistaminica (Betahistin), sleeping pills. They also tried anti-depressants (which failed and had nasty side effects) and suggested psycho-therapy (long waiting lists).

Now, she had a vertigo relapse (vestibular organ failed again) during an ‘anti-vertigo treatment’ with mechanical stimulation of the cervicular vertebrae by a physiotherapist.
Does anybody have an idea why those mechanical triggers cause the vertigo and why it triggers this domino effect of other symptoms?
We are desperate and fell pretty helpless. We would be very grateful for any suggestion what to do.

Do I have a thyroid issue?

For years I've had mental health issues that mimicked bipolar. Depression major anxiety jumping into great happiness ect. My thyroid has been tested many times. Always been told it's within normal. This last year my doctor found I have an enlarged thyroid ("normal for a large body habatas" which I am not) and I also have two nodules over 1cm that are gonna be tested. But this made me look at my numbers. Ft4 .68 and tsh 3rd generation .99. Both are low on the "normal" scale which concerns me. I've been feeling very crappy the last month and a half. Like I have a fever and body just feels bad. Anybody have any suggestions? Like should I see a new doctor? Get tested again?

I was recently diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction due to pelvic spasms. Sex is too painful. Has anyone dealt with this and what is the treatment/outcome? Dr. says I don't need surgery but not sure of the treatment plan yet. I would just like to feel normal again and be able to do normal things.
