Ankle issue : flat arch affecting hip flexors, etc...questions.

Hi,

I have had numerous injuries to my left ankle over many years since my teens or before (I am 62) resulting in the left arch being gone. (post tibial tendon does not work from injuries ).

I have orthotics which have helped and with closed shoes or sneakers I do well. Once the summer months come however and I switch to sandals more often I have issues . I have finally found over the past few years women's sandals where the footbed comes out and the orthotic can be put in so that has helped. But the correction on the left orthotic is so great that there are not a lot of choices out there with sandals or dress shoes it seems.

I also have issues on my right side due to the ankle on the left throwing my body "off" . Issues come and go and right now the hip flexor on right is flaring.

I am interested especially in hearing from those who have this ankle issue and have not had surgery for it.

I have a couple of questions :

1. for those of you who have a completely flat arch like this ...do you find that you are having issues on the other side of the body. For me my hip flexor on right side is acting up due to my left foot and the body mechanics of the whole thing. I am in PT currently for the hip flexor flare up issue and she has explained to me and I know it takes awhile for the hip flexor (also Illiacus/ psoas which is all related) flare up to subside. But just wondering if others have had the issue and what they have found helped.

2. For females out there with this ankle issue : what shoes have you found work with your orthotics?

Thanks for you time.
