I joined this site to give a warning to younger guys about the operation on the prostrate known as a TURP, trans-urethral resection of the prostate (a surgical procedure used to cut away a section of the prostate gland if it's causing men problems passing water); but when I came to post, the thread was close, so here is what I wanted to say:
Since I was a young boy I have always been able to get an erection, I could ejaculate and I got great pleasure from having sex; but following a TURP nearly 4 years ago all this has changed.
Around that time I began having problems passing water, eventually the condition became worse and the GP put me on a course of Flomax, but this failed to help and pretty soon I was in agony trying to pee (the film, the Green Mile depicts this perfectly). Soon after I had the TURP and I could pee, but now my sex life is non-existent. This seems to suit my wife as we have not had sex for ten years and we never speak of it. For me however, although I am 69, I am an otherwise healthy and fit 6 foot 3 inches tall, 15 stone and as straight as a ramrod man who is constantly tortured by longing to have sex. However, it is impossible to achieve anything like a hard enough erection to penetrate, even with Cialis or Viagra - and I have to relieve myself, but this does not satisfy me and the torment continues.
It has been mentioned that the doctors don’t mention the bad things that can happen (see the thread sex after TURP). To be fair to my guy he did tell me but I ignored it, as I was in such pain that I just wanted it to end and was prepared to take the chance – in fact I had no option, I had to. However, to be critical of my guy I later discovered (from a nurse) that he had 7 such operations that day and was under pressure to get them done. It is possible that I and perhaps other men have had our life destroyed by a surgeon who might not have been as careful as he could have been.
So, in a nutshell think carefully before you have this operation, as damage done (cut too much from prostate) cannot be undone. Perhaps time might put it right, but I have been waiting in vain for over three years for signs of improvement and all I have is: an erection that is negligible, I don’t ejaculate and I feel very little, except, sometimes, suicidal.
